A traditional confectioner, appropriately named Candies, has opened its doors in Shanklin.
The locally-owned sweetie shop is located in the former party shop premises at Falcon Cross, next to Shanklin Library.
Standing out with its candyfloss pink frontage, the shop is stocked with over 150 jars filled with favourite childhood classics from the past 5 decades with a large tuck shop featured at the back of the store.
As well as pick ‘n’ mix sweets, customers can stock up and treat the family to a selection of goodies including chocolate, toffees, soft drinks and milkshakes.
The store also aims to give tourists a taste of the island and will soon sell a selection of Isle of Wight made products including homemade cakes, ice cream and fudge, as well as traditional seaside souvenirs.
The owner, Matt, who started a sweet delivery business during lockdown, explains why he decided to open in Shanklin:
“I had always dreamt of opening a proper old-fashioned sweet shop.
“So when I noticed the shop was to let back in January I decided to take the plunge and start this new business and people love it. The shop was always meant to be a sweet shop and it just works.”
A number of jobs have been created with a small team of Islanders running the shop between 11:00-17:30 daily.
Good luck in your new sweet shop in Shanklin
Bonbon’s are great but remember there’s a shortish of dentists on the Island
Sponsored by local dentists.
good luck but unfortunately i’m sure as with most other ridiculously over priced sweet shops that open on the island they will be closed in 6 months when the holiday season is over as the locals can’t afford them 🙁
