Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service is tackling a boat fire on the beach in Binstead this evening (Tuesday).
Fire crews were called to the scene at the hard-to-reach Players Beach at around 19:00.
Firefighters are currently working to get water to the boat which is located on the shore in a remote area with no direct vehicular access.
Crews are using fire extinguishers and buckets of water to try and out the flames, however, the scale of the fire is increasing.
Black smoke can be seen billowing into the surrounding skies as the sun sets over Ryde.
UPDATE @ 19:50 – Firefighters have managed to run a hose reel jet down through the woods to the beach from a fire appliance located on Ryde House Lane.
The blaze is now being contained and extinguished with no spread to the nearby woodland.
The cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed but it is thought to be an act of arson.
UPDATE @ 20:05 – Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Control have said they sent 2 fire appliances from Ryde and Newport, alongside a Water Carrier from Ventnor to reports of an abandoned boat on fire.
The incident is drawing to a close.

Not the cornflake!!!
– Likely yobs running amock once more.
The island seems to have more of them than ever these days.
We are now reaping the fruits of our discipline free era.
In my day bad behaviour was met with discipline to the proper degree, corporal if necessary – it kept us on ‘the straight and narrow’..
Yer, that really worked. All the old perverts running around the island. In ‘your day’ they stuck their head in the sand and pretended there was no pedo ring in the BBC. More people = more crime. It was just as bad in ‘your day’ just did not have the media to tell you. Was all hidden.
Of course we had the media, just as today – I was’nt born in the stone age..
Liberal policies took root in the 60’s and 70’s, before that people had few qualms over capital punishment, for crimes against innocent children that would be the appropriate sanction, as it would for deliberate murder (a life for a life).
