An object spotted in the water off the coast of the East Wight led to the launch of Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat late this afternoon (Sunday).
It was just before 17:25 that Solent Coastguard was alerted to a potential situation developing in the sea off Dunnose Bay, between Luccombe and Bonchurch.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team was mobilised, with volunteer lifeboat crew from the independent Sandown & Shanklin lifeboat paged to launch.
It didn’t take long for the lifeboat to arrive on scene and quickly establish that there was no cause for concern.
The object sighted off the coast was a bunch of birthday balloons. They were recovered ashore.
A person in the water at Sandown led to a multi-agency response at first light this morning (Sunday).
Police, HM Coastguard and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service all rushed to the Esplanade, near to Sandown Pier, at just before 04:45.
Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat was paged to launch, but was stood down upon launch. The individual was safely in the care of the appropriate medical responders.
Bembridge and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Teams also responded.
Fears that a person in the water was in need of assistance led to an emergency response to the River Medina this afternoon (Sunday).
At around 15:40, Solent Coastguard tasked Cowes RNLI lifeboat and Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team to Whippingham.
It had been reported that a person was in the water off the Folly Inn.
Upon arrival on scene, Cowes RNLI discovered that the person was no longer in the water and did not require any assistance.
