Bembridge RNLI were tasked earlier this evening (Sunday) after something – which turned out to be a Spider-man helium balloon- was seen dropping into the water.
The RNLB Norman Harvey (Inshore Lifeboat D-778) was launched at around 17.48 after something had been spotted dropping into the water south of St Helens Fort.
Conditions were very benign so it did not take long for the crew to reach the area where they found a cluster of helium balloons.
They then returned to Lane End with the balloons onboard and were recovered by the shore crew at 18.30.
A Bembridge RNLI spokesperson has said:
“Although in this event it was a false alarm, it was obviously something that needed to be checked out.”
