A 32ft sailing yacht with a fouled prop, which was unable to manoeuvre to safety due to a lack of wind, was towed to Portsmouth by Bembridge RNLI lifeboat last night (Thursday).
Solent Coastguard requested the launch of the All Weather Lifeboat (ALB) shortly before 21:30 following reports from the 2 crew onboard the casualty vessel that they were in difficulty.
The yacht was located by the volunteer crew of Bembridge Lifeboat just 2 nautical miles south east of Horse Sand Fort.
Having carried out a dynamic risk assessment it was decided to move the yacht out of danger by towing her to Portsmouth.
Having safely put her alongside a pontoon at Endeavour Marina in Gosport, the ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ ALB returned to Bembridge and was recovered by 23:15.
