Steps leading down to the beach at Alum Bay have been closed due to unsafe conditions, amid fears of further coastal erosion. The closure by the Isle of Wight Council has come into effect immediately. Back in March 2023, the steps were closed for around a month as a result of further coastal erosion. A spokesperson from The Needles: Landmark Attraction has said:
“The Isle of Wight Council will keep us informed when work has been completed but this is essential maintenance to protect everyone”.
The iconic chairlift is currently undergoing maintenance meaning that all access to the beach is currently severed.
