A football match between Isle of Wight primary and secondary school teachers, held at Westwood Park in Cowes on Sunday, has raised over £1,000 for the Isle of Wight charity, Wight Brainy Bunch.
The game was won 9-2 by the secondary school teachers with goals from Connor Kelly (3), Dave Sweet (2), Keiran Wye (2), Keenan Phillips and Ash Brett. The goal scorers for the primary school teachers were Jez Conway and James Cheek.
Hat-trick hero, Connor Kelly, was man-of-the-match for the secondary side and Paul Marshall was the man-of-the-match for the primary school teachers.
The game was organized by The Bay teacher and Cowes Sports player, Gareth Bricknell, and the trophy was presented by Oskar Grimes, son of the founders of the charity, Mark and Kathryn Grimes. The match was refereed by Callum McFarlane.
The Wight Brainy Bunch was set up by firefighter Mark and his wife Kathryn following Mark’s diagnosis of a brain tumour in February 2015. Realising that very little funding is received for research into brain tumours, following Mark’s surgery in April 2015, they embarked on a series of fundraising events to benefit the Brain Tumour Charity.
It is hoped that a football match between Isle of Wight primary and secondary school teachers will become an annual event to raise money for local charity.
