A 16-year-old boy who was arrested following a 5-hour standoff with Armed Police in East Cowes earlier this week has been released on bail.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the teenager was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill following an incident on York Avenue on Bank Holiday Monday.
Emergency services initially responded to the town at around 18:00 in response to concerns for the welfare of a 16-year-old boy. Cordons were soon erected in the area as armed officers took up position; guns and riot shields at the ready.
Additional resources were called in from the mainland including more armed officers and a negotiator.
Following several hours of talks, the incident was brought to an end shortly before 22:45 after Police convinced the teenager to throw a number of weapons out of the window, allowing officers to move in and make an arrest. Police have confirmed that a number of weapons were involved in the incident, including an air gun and a knife.
After a team of riot gear-clad officers made their move and stormed the flat, the 16-year-old was dragged out in cuffs and taken into custody on suspicion of making threats to kill.
Now, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that the teen has been released on bail until 28th November.
Well that’ll be an outcry when he shoots someone then.
Someone probably overheard him spouting stuff online over a video game.

If you get broken into it takes upwards of 10 days
to get the police to attend by which time any forensics
become void. You get an idiot with an air gun and

I think our police use situations like this as a training exercise, as you say, it takes a very long time to get a response if victim’s are affected….It must be very exciting experience for them to play cop’s and robbers….It’s the country we have to live in now….
When will you ever learn, you’re not that important. As long as you pay your tax and be a good boy you’ll not get any support from anyone. Know your place. It’s the Tory way, only deal with stuff that makes you look good. This was more about ‘showing’ the public that there is a police force. It’s all an act. We don’t really have any law and order.

One Police sniper is all that was needed
So all those resources and cost to tax payers and risk to all those vunerable people who at time had no police or ambulance/paramedic. If released on bail it couldn’t of been that bad,if had been would of been put in secure unit.
Like others said, police like the buzz and avoid working.
If he was so dangerous that they needed armed police there for 5 hours, why the hell are they letting him out on bail already?
Or, maybe, it was all a bit overkill on the part of the police?
I’ll probably go with the latter.
Or may be, a concerned neighbour or bypasser over Herd the lad saying (from inside his flat) ‘I will kill you’.. if so what would you have done?

Years ago I was told of a lady calling the police to say an intruder was in her garage & a door which leads into her kitchen from the garage wasn’t locked. The lady was informed, there aren’t any officers available due to the nightclubs about to kick out. She called back 10 mins later to say the intruder was in her house. She was advised to lock herself in a room if possible, but they still didn’t have officers available. She made a third call to say she’d shot the intruder. Within minutes the street was filled with police vehicles of every kind. The lady was told to throw down her gun. She replied I don’t have a gun. They said, you’ve shot an intruder. She said, A snapshot with my camera, because apparently you lot were to busy!
