Many people take a great deal of trouble securing their home and property, but all the while leave valuable garden items such as tools and bicycles in a shed that is either unlocked or not maintained.
Garden crime is on the rise, with tools such as lawn mowers, strimmers, hedge cutters and power tools just some of the items in high demand.
But Hampshire Constabulary is offering some tips and tricks on how to make your outbuildings a bit more secure this summer.
Push bikes are expensive items to replace and may incur the victim extra insurance premiums. This can also be an open invitation for thieves to use garden implements to break into your house or car.
Shed and allotment security can be improved with measures as simple as moving all items to somewhere that is securely locked and taking a full photographic inventory of any high-value goods before you leave.
To reduce the likelihood of your shed or allotment being targeted keep the structure in good repair – if it looks tatty it may be more enticing to potential miscreants – and it is advisable to think about external lighting and or security cameras as another more expensive but secure measure.
