UPDATED: A man has been arrested by Police in connection with an incident in Shanklin during the early hours of this morning (Thursday), which resulted in Regent Street being cordoned off for a time.
Police threw up cordons surrounding Falcon Cross at just gone midnight after a male was discovered in an injured state having been allegedly assaulted.
The unconscious man was tended to by members of the public prior to the arrival of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, who conveyed the casualty to St Mary’s Hospital, Newport.
Cordons were lifted in the area by 03:30.
Island Echo understands that a man has been arrested on suspicion of being involved in the assault. He remains at Newport Police Station for questioning.

An 18-year-old man arrested on suspicion of the assault has been released without charge and will face no further action.
