Firearms officers were transported across the Solent by a MOD Police boat this afternoon (Monday) as an incident unfolded in Ryde.
At around 15:00, Armed Response Officers based on the Isle of Wight responded from Newport to Ryde following reports of a potential situation developing. Due to the nature of the information received, an additional 4 specially trained firearms officers from the mainland were drafted in.
The heavily-armed cops were placed on a boat belonging to the Ministry of Defence and hurried across the Solent to Ryde Pier on blue lights. It was at the end of the pier that 2 Police vehicles were waiting to whisk the firearms experts to an unknown destination.
Island Echo understands that the mainland team were taken to Ryde Police Station but were swiftly stood down as they were no longer required. They returned to the mainland at around 16:45.
It is thought the incident – which Police have been unable to comment on – occurred in the Elmfield or Westridge area of the town. It was brought to a close by 16:30.

Why can’t they comment on it? Surly if someone has been messing about with guns the public have a right to know.
Perhaps they are too embarrassed.
