The popular Appley Day community event is set to return this Sunday (5th October), inviting locals to celebrate the green space of Appley Park in Ryde between 11:00 to 15:00.
Organised by Friends of Appley and supported by Ryde Town Council, Goodleaf Tree Climbing and Natural Enterprise, the free event promises a range of activities in the park and on the beach for all ages to enjoy. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic and make the most of the natural surroundings.
Appley Tower will play a central role in this year’s event, with guided tours of the historic landmark offered by Natural Enterprise, who now manage the site. Tours will take place at 11:00, 12:00, 13:00 and 14:00 with a limit of 10 guests per session. Entry is £5 per person, which includes a £2 entry fee – all proceeds will go directly towards the care and preservation of the Tower.
Natural Enterprise will also be running a sandcastle competition in front of the Tower. Judging will take place at 13:30 by the High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight, Jacqueline Gazzard.
Activities throughout the day will include:
- Free paddleboard taster sessions hosted by Ryde Town Council
- £10 tree climbs with Goodleaf Tree Climbing
- Silent disco ‘Appley Groove’ from Groove IOW
- Ryde Rowing Club open day, including a rowing machine competition, tea, cake and a book nook
- Big bubbles and outdoor games with 2nd Ryde Sea Scouts and Cubs
- Woodland crafts and forest school activities with Oakfield Primary School
- Clay tree face making with local artist Zoe
- Wildlife information stands from Bird Aware Solent, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust and Isle of Wight Hedgehogs
- Guided walks including a tree identification walk and a bat walk at dusk
Abi Fox, from Friends of Appley, has said:
“Thanks to the support of our local community we’re delighted to be back with Appley Day 2025. Every day’s a beautiful day in Appley Park, but it’s even better when our community comes together to celebrate our much loved green space. We look forward to seeing everyone there on October 5!”
Attendees are encouraged to travel to Appley Park by foot, bike or bus where possible. Further information can be found on the Friends of Appley Facebook page.
