Police are appealing for information after a teenager boy was seriously injured in a collision in Brading early this morning (Thursday).
Officers were called to the A3055 New Road at around 07:20 after a Mazda 2 was involved in a collision with a 14-year-old pedestrian crossing the road just north of the B3395 Sandown Road – Yarbridge Crossroads.
The boy was taken to St Mary’s Hospital and has since been airlifted to Southampton General Hospital by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
Specialist investigators from the Roads Policing Unit travelled across to the Island earlier today to conduct a scene examination.
Hampshire Constabulary are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to call Police on 101, quoting 44190428146.
I’ve seen a number of near misses lately, and most of them have been because people are not putting their lights on. I’m convinced drivers think they cost money to use. That said, I’m not saying it was the cause of this particular accident. Hope the Nipper makes a full recovery.
They do actually cost money to use, you use more fuel if you have lights and heater on. That’s no excuse though.

The rubbish LED type street lights are as effective as a jar of glow worms.
That said the young are not the most ‘switched on’ in the mornings, and often larking about, or head being pumped with music, or watching a six inch screen instead of being aware of ‘real life’.
NOT saying it is the case here, and even if so, no one deserves this, but like much in life, there are likely many factors involved.
Imagine the amount of EXTRA cars when Ryde is ruined by thousand plus more homes AND a larger business park, adding to the traffic, the frustration of driver all trying to get to work just when the children are going to school.
Those developers children will no doubt be whisked safely to school in large four by fours, unaffected in a negative way by the carnage ‘Daddy’ has created for others.
Hope the lad recovers fully as a horrible thing to happen to anyone
