Flying doctors have been called to a serious crash involving a motorcyclist on Heathfield Road near Freshwater this afternoon (Tuesday).
Emergency services are currently on scene between High Street and Colwell Road – close to the Norton Green area – having been alerted to the road traffic collision at just gone 16:00.
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has just touched down in the West Wight to assist paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Heathfield Road has been closed to traffic in both directions. Southern Vectis Route 7 buses are now on diversion.
UPDATE @ 17:35 – A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“We were called at 3.59pm to reports of a single vehicle collision on Heathfield Road, Freshwater involving a motorcycle. Officers are currently on scene”.
It has been confirmed that the motorbike involved is a Blue and White Suzuki.
The extent of the rider’s injuries is currently unknown.
UPDATE @ 19:56 – The male motorcyclist has been airlifted to the Major Trauma Centre at Southampton General Hospital. He is thought to have sustained multiple fractures.





























































































Not sure if this is relevant to this, but the roads were very slippery today. Ironically the road gritters make the road more slippery for motorcyclists.
