Reports of a person in cardiac arrest next to a children’s playground in Ryde prompted a rapid response from emergency services this afternoon (Tuesday) – but the incident turned out to be nothing more than a pair of drunks.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service mobilised an ambulance crew, critical care paramedic and an operational commander to Simeon Street Recreation Ground at 14:30.
Thinking that they were responding to a cardiac arrest, paramedics made best speed through Newport and Wootton to the scene off Rink Road in Ryde.
4 officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary also rushed to the incident on blue lights and sirens from Sandown.
However, when emergency personnel arrived on scene, it wasn’t the life threatening emergency they thought it was. They were greeted by 2 intoxicated individuals, who eventually got up and walked away under their own steam.
Island Echo understands a member of the public called 999 in good faith.
Emergency crews stood down from the false alarm, with good intent, by 15:00.

Low life waste of space snorting swilling shite, all poncing PIP and sickness benefits to get snorted and swilled on, out of touch DWP keep on paying them it, no questions ever asked, while robbing the sick and pensioners and genuinely ill people of all they can take. This shit show needs to get some priorities and principles.
Wow!!! Did I miss something?
I didn’t see any mention in the report about these people claiming benefits or sick or elderly people being robbed as a result of these 2 people being drunk. Maybe I need new glasses.
No wonder we still have a large black hole, the
Government are still funding p*ssheads
If you haven’t paid into the system, no benefits
Lol
How do you know they are on benefits? Are they friends of yours?
Drunks are nothing but a pain in the a@se.
I feel sorry for the emergency services, such a
waste of their valuable time, an ambulance
may have been required for a genuine reason
elsewhere.
In fairness, the drunks didn’t call an ambulance, someone else did.
How can they just walk away after having had an AED applied to them, I hope!
Where they arrested for having a rest
Wasters.
What’s an ‘Operational Commander’,one wonders, and would they attend every call-out involving more than one person? Or just for alleged cardiac arrests?Do they tell the paramedics/emergency workers how to do their jobs, and does Wes Streeting know about what sounds like a farcical overkill? I think we should be told, ed …
