A Shanklin man has been fined £80 after Police found a small quantity of cannabis in his home just months after a drugs conviction.
Joshua Mitchell, 32, of Palmerston Road in Shanklin, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance of class B when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday (29th August).
Officers from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary were called to the Shanklin area on unrelated matters, which involved making door-to-door inquiries in attempts to locate an outstanding suspect. They were responding to reports someone had been seen with a firearm.
Having knocked on Mitchell’s door, officers entered his address and found a small amount of herbal cannabis, consistent with personal use.
Mitchell was previously convicted for the production of cannabis back in April of this year.
Magistrates dealt with the case by way of a financial penalty. The 32-year-old was handed an £80 fine and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £32 surcharge fee.

Good now send the police round to the house that the Isle of Wight council own and use to house troubled people from the mainland in they are always smoking cannabis in the garden I have informed the council and nothing has changed all they want is the money for housing them
The Council are useless, most of the Island smells of Cannabis
I am certain people are sticking it in their Vapes and puffing it.
Sandown, Shanklin and Ryde stink of the stuff.
No council owned property on the island.
The council won’t do anything they will just tell you to ring the police. The council don’t care what goes on in the buildings they house people in.
Oh for goodness sake legalise it it’s more harmless than alcohol ! Wake up people
Better still.Give them all a lethal injection.Including all benefits claimants, People in jail.Lgbtsthp or whatever they call themselves….
A hell of a lot cheaper as well.
Alcohol the root off evil makes people turn nasty horrible humans, just get stoned indoors out the way
Absolutely ridiculous. This has to be a malicious prosecution. Cannabis will be legal to use in the next year or two, it’s only a matter of time before the UK follows suit with the other countries who have legalised it. Alcohol is far more dangerous. Shame on the CPS for authorising this, absolute waste of public funds. Prosecuting end users for possessing small amounts is nothing more than an abuse of power.
I thank you for the comment and agree !in this beautiful world we’ve all been en given these herbs to nurture us mother nature means for us to have them …..
