A total of 56 postcodes in the South Wight are without power this afternoon (Saturday).
Homes and businesses in the PO37 6, PO37 7 and PO38 3 regions – areas of Godshill, Whiteley Bank and Shanklin – lost supply at 15:55.
It’s understood that a fallen tree is to blame for the outage, although this is yet to be confirmed.
Southern and Scottish Electricity Networks is working to restore power as quickly as possible, with an estimated restoration time of 17:00.
It’s the second time today that Islanders have lost power. A power cut hit an area of Cowes this morning, as previously reported by Island Echo.
For further information about this power cut call the dedicated helpline by dialling 105.
Alternatively, you can send SSEN a message on Facebook or Twitter (@ssencommunity).
App: Did you know SSEN also have a mobile phone app where you can report, locate, track and subscribe to faults in your area?
Don’t forget your e-car on the island. Still you will worry about power cuts, the road works will get you….
Wait until all cars are electric, the extra loading on the supply will cause many more power faliures. Best by a horse, so long as it doesn’t flatulate to upset Gretas life.
If it was a fallen tree that has caused this then hang your head in shame SSEN. Surely common sense would see regular checks on any branches overhanging or close to power cables managed by SSEN. More so with winter, freezing temperatures and gusting winds about. Feel sorry for all that affected
It reminds me when the union’s held the country to ransom every year, we were known as the sick man of Europe.
Power cuts, streets full of rubbish, and the then Labour Government with its beginning bowel, asking for money from the World Monetary fund.
And now, the French own our power companies…
As always the dim public are so easily fooled by HMG. For they told us that “competion would be good for the consumer”, when in fact, all it meant was each competing company cutting costs wherever they could to gain market share by having a low price. But this cost cutting meant less maintainence and less investment and only NOW we are paying the price for politicians lies and smaller energy companies go broke, and larger ones cut costs so much that systems fail more often, but shareholders are kept sweet.
why cant SSE stop putting overhead cable instead of all cables to be underground this is 2021 and they are too lazy and wont spend money on cable in the public hyways ,cheapness is not the best option ,cables above ground are also unsightly . stop giving dividends to the shareholders and reinvest on new equipment .
