UPDATED: Emergency services are dealing with a crash on the main Newport to Sandown road at Blackwater this morning (Friday).
4 people are understood to be injured as a result of the collision, which is said to involve a lorry and a number of cars. It occurred at just before 09:30
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are on scene with 2 appliances from Newport. 2 ambulances are also attending the incident alongside Police.
The road has been closed in both directions with traffic being diverted locally. As a consequence, Merstone Lane is busy and Southern Vectis Route 2 buses are not serving Merstone.
UPDATE @ 10:20 – Firefighters have extricated a female occupant of a white Skoda following a 3-vehicle pile up.
A blue Ford Mondeo has crashed into the rear of a lorry, with the white car having collided into the rear of the Mondeo. It’s thought the lorry stopped to let persons unknown cross the road.
A second occupant of the Skoda has been described as walking wounded, as have the occupants of the blue Ford. 3 people have been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.
Emergency services are now standing down from the incident. Recovery of the 2 cars has been arranged.
UPDATE @ 11:23 – Blackwater Road has now re-opened in both directions following recovery of the vehicles by Stag Lane Motors.
Southern Vectis Route 2 buses are now reverting back to their normal route.
