6 people were arrested for drug driving during the latest round of proactive policing by Hampshire Roads Policing Unit here on the Isle of Wight.
During the 2-day operation – called Operation Wightwash – some 179 offences were dealt with by way of fixed penalty or a traffic offence report.
These included carrying an excessively heavy load and having windows that were tinted beyond what is legally allowed.
In addition to this, 6 motorists were stopped on the Island for drug driving – all 6 were arrested and taken into custody for bloods to be taken.
It has been confirmed that a total of 12 vehicles were seized as a result of the driver having either no insurance and/or no licence.
Chief Inspector Alex Charge said:
“We want road users to be safe, and to feel safe behind the wheel. We know the public are concerned about driving standards so we are doing all we can to target offenders, actively track which areas are most affected, and work with partners to address matters on the road network.
“Our teams are all pulling together to make this possible. We are fortunate to have the combined efforts of the dedicated RPU, the dual skilled RP/ARV team, as well as Neighbourhoods teams and Response & Patrol teams collectively working together to address these issues more broadly and as a priority under Operation Mile.

It’s about time Police have a patrol car positioned in West Street, Brading,
they would catch over 100 motorists at least a day who break the law by driving
from Brading High Street into West Street.
Motorists IGNORE the no Right Turn sign.
Traffic Law on this Island is very poor, so much could be done to STOP
people breaking the law.
Surely there’s easy pickings to be had by putting tickets on the cars that park on the pavement on Great Preston Road.
The builder in question has been advised by the Police that he is entitled to load and unload equipment necessary for daily work, and there in no ‘time’ limit on the duration of doing such.
His disabled daughter who needs to park outside the family home to leave her child there to be able to work is perfectly within her rights.
So unless double yellow lines AND lines with signage on the kerb is installed at Great Preston road, the ‘drive envy’ mob will just have to ‘live’ with it.
Try respecting those whose earnings pay for your children, and subsidised rent and c.tax etc.
There is nothing wrong with anyone loading or unloading a vehicle.
The problem is when a vehicle parks 24/7 on a pavement causing a congestion to other
vehicles driving along a Road and also affecting the safety of persons walking
on a public pavement.
Think of young Mums pushing their prams or mobility scooters and dog walkers.
Some persons are so selfish and only think of themselves and do not care about others.
Island Roads will be laying double yellow lines in a few weeks time to make
Great Preston Road a safe Road for everyone.
Mmm will it though, evidence shows that when you prohibit parking, speed significantly increase.
so we’ll look forward to you moaning about that in the near future!
Not a problem Speed Humps and Camera’s will Stop persons speeding.
Roads do not need morons parking on Pavements to slow traffic down,
just imagine if everyone parked on pavements
Great Preston Road is a separate issue, that is due to a problem
Family breaking the rules.
I am talking about persons who knowingly break the law by
Turning into a Street with a Sign that clearly states NO right turn.
It seems that many motorists are either blind/stupid or cannot read.

The high street to west Street you can turn right. It’s the high street to the mall you can’t turn right. For you not to be about to turn right to the mall the no right turn signs need to be before the junction.

Having caught these scum the courts should give them a massive fine, a minimum 10 year ban and an extended test at the end of it and the same for drunk drivers but they won’t, they will just hand out the usual farcical slap on the wrist
