Police have arrested a man from Newport after windscreens were smashed and wing mirrors damaged on a number of vehicles in Sandown overnight.

As many as 17 cars parked on Beachfield Road in the town were the target of criminal damage this morning.

After conducting initial inquiries, a 30-year-old man from Newport was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage.

Vehicle owners now face a significant bill – or troublesome insurance claims – to bring their motors back into a roadworthy condition.

Police aware stickers have been placed on the cars asking owners to get in touch with Hampshire Constabulary on 101.

A spokesperson for the force has said:

“A man has been arrested in connection with a number of vehicle damage incidents in Sandown.

“Police have received reports this morning (30 August) of as many as 17 vehicles being damaged overnight in Beachfield Road.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police on 101, quoting 44220352250.

What was the point of that mindless act? Glad the police have made an arrest on suspicion of causing criminal damage. Unfortunately does not compensate the poor car owners. Nothings safe anymore.

Excessive drugs and alcohol from an early age are usually the culprits. UK is swimming in both. As far as I know rats don’t depend on either.

Because the public just like the Police are all too afraid to tackle anyone alone

This is because most are afraid of getting hurt and the public know they will get fined if ‘they’ were to carry a weapon to protect themselves from some scum with nothing to lose

They hope the Police will sort it but the courts won’t as jails overflowing with the world’s criminals now to ever again gain meaningful sentences to our own criminals unless they are as bad or worse. And trust me, that is unlikely now

Not suggesting tackle him,but let’s make simple to contact Police 101 never answer and tell you report on line – easy to say but takes ages and have to give lots of info about yourself. 999 won’t accept if you want to remain anonymous. If like old days when you call you had local control who could directly talk to a local officer who would arrive swiftly. Now you get a crime ref number and tell insurance. Police forces role is to serve, protect and prevent crime. This person when charged should get forced labour and everything earned pay back to those who have listed, sound’s like we’ll over £5/6 thousands.

Myself and other neighbours called the police the second we was realised what was happening, they arrived within minutes, had this not have been done there would certainly of been many others damaged. The guy was intoxicated and was angry as he had lost his dog earlier on that day so thought it was acceptable to take his anger out on other people’s cars. Totally unacceptable and looking at his behaviour when he’s around the area in general something needs to be done about him!

As the courts will probably dish out a lenient non-custodial, perhaps a better idea would be to stop the benefits he is entitled to. And before anyone tells me they cant do that because of his “human rights” I ask a) is he human, and b) what about the car owners rights!

If found guilty the scumbag should be made to pay for all repairs, if it hasn’t got the cash then sieze all its assets and/ or stop all its benefits until the bills are fully paid.
It is disgusting owners should have to be inconvenienced or financially hit because of the criminal antisocial behaviour of a waste of oxygen.

I bet he’s claiming that the voices in his head told him to do it? Make sure he has to pay for ALL the damage he has caused, why should the owners pay to repair his selfish actions? Name him. To many “mental health” claimants are getting away things theses days, it’s ridiculous!

I had a customers car smashed in the same way reported to the police and they won’t even come out to our Buissiness to investigate. Looks like we have to sit and wait for more to be smashed before they do anything. Luckily the car was due to be scrapped but its still criminal damage.

Let’s predict what excuses the maggot’s brief will trot out in mitigation – “he has had a hard upbringing” or “he is struggling with mental health issues” or “he has a history of substance abuse but is deeply ashamed of what he did and is trying to turn his life around.” The most depressing thing is the magistrate/judge will swallow it and fine him 25 quid from his benefits.
