UPDATED: Police have closed Burnt House Lane on the outskirts of Newport as a result of a 3-car road traffic collision this evening (Friday).
Multiple Police cars rushed to the scene at just before 17:05, with the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service mobilised at 17:06.
It has been confirmed that 3 vehicles have been involved in the crash on the single-track road.
Paramedics are currently assessing a woman and a child.
The National Police Air Service Helicopter has been called upon and is currently conducting a sweep in the skies above the Pan area. It is unclear at this stage what has prompted the helicopter’s attendance.
Burnt House Lane is closed from its junction with Pan Lane to its junction with Downend Road.
UPDATE @ 18:05 – Police have confirmed that a Police car has been involved in a collision with a Peugeot 307, which has also collided with a Ford Fiesta.
A search is now underway to locate the driver of the Peugeot, who has not remained on scene.
UPDATE @ 18:31 – The 2 casualties have been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for further treatment.
UPDATE @ 19:27 – 1 male has been arrested by Police in connection with this evening’s incident. He has been taken to Newport Police Station for questioning.
UPDATE SATURDAY – Police have confirmed that a 21-year-old man from Freshwater was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking, failing to stop, driving whilst unfit through drink and use of a motor vehicle without third party insurance.
A 26-year-old woman from Ryde was also arrested yesterday evening on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and failing to stop.
