A Shanklin woman who’d been on a night out drove home whilst 3x the legal drink-drive limit after she missed the last bus, a court has heard.
Sally Robertson, 38, of High Street in Shanklin, pleaded guilty to drink driving when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Tuesday 12th September.
Ann Smout, prosecuting, told the court that on 28th August, at around 04:00 in the morning, on duty Police officers saw Roberston driving her Nissan Micra along Monkton Street in Ryde toward St John’s Hill.
At the junction of the 2 roads, officers noticed that Robertson was indicating right, then left, then right again.
The 38-year-old was stopped on nearby Kent Street in Oakfield with officers noticing immediately that she smelt strongly of alcohol.
A roadside breath test returned a positive reading for alcohol, as did a further test conducted at Newport Police Station which returned a reading of 105 in 100 millilitres of breath – 3x the legal limit.
Defending, Henry Farley said that his client had been at a party and missed the last bus home and that she was ashamed of herself for making the decision to drive home.
Magistrates handed the receptionist a 12-month community order with 80 hours of unpaid work. She was handed a 26-month driving ban and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £114 surcharge.

Serves her right, no time for drink drivers And at 38 should be more responsible instead of being a threat to other road users and their families
well done mr plod first catching the menace to society
Shove drink drivers inside
Ashamed?! Theres no shame there, she does it all the time! Luckily shes been stopped before someone was hurt. It was just a matter of time.
Well she missed the bus, there’s no other way home, no taxi, no phone a friend, no walking, no asking to sleep on the couch.
Those at the party are as much to blame watching her leave while 3 times over the limit. Did they think that she was safe to get home alone.?
Ban for life and crush the car.
She had no intention of getting a bus Most island drivers are drug or drink drivers. well it is the isle of Wight
Caught at 4 am on a Monday morning!!!! Who the hell has a late night party on a Sunday night???? Grow up girl.
