A 20-year-old man from Newport has been re-bailed by Police after his arrest on suspicion of murder last month.
The unnamed local answered to bail at Newport Police Station this morning (Tuesday) where he was re-bailed to appear back at the same station on Wednesday 1st June.
As previously reported by Island Echo, detectives from Hampshire Major Investigation Team are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 49-year-old Gary ‘Jeff’ Stacey. Mr Stacey was found in the middle of the road on St James’ Street, Newport during the early hours of 14th February. Tragically, Mr Stacey died in Southampton General Hospital the next day.
A 21-year-old and another 20-year-old who were originally arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm were released with no further action last month.
