2 men have been jailed for 6 years each for a knifepoint robbery in Ryde back in October – a crime which nearly resulted in a teenager losing their sight in one eye.
Dylan Doughty, 22, of no fixed address and Ashley Jones, 21, of High Street, Ryde, both pleaded guilty to 5 counts of robbery at the Isle of Wight Crown Court.
The court heard how the pair attacked a group of 5 friends as they headed home after a night out in Ryde. The duo ran up to the group in Swanmore Road, at around 00:30 on 13th October this year, threatening them with a knife and demanding they hand over whatever they had on them.
One member of the group, an 18-year-old teenager from Ventnor, was stabbed with the knife under his eyelid. Doctors have said he was lucky not to have lost his sight. He is still undergoing treatment for damage to his eye.
Doughty and Jones were identified through a photo which had been posted on social media. They were quickly arrested and were found to be in possession of some of the items stolen from the group.
The duo have been sentenced to 6 years in prison and given an additional 3 years on licence.
Detective Constable Lee Parker said:
“This was a terrifying attack on a group of friends who were simply walking home after a night out together.

“This was a totally random attack and I’m pleased that these two dangerous men are safely behind bars.
“I would like to thank the victims for their bravery throughout this investigation and to all the witnesses who spoke to us and shared what they knew to ensure these two no longer posed a risk to those living and working on the island.”
Only 6 years??? And we know the scumbags will be out in 2 years, laughing at our pathetic justice system, and free to carry on terrifying innocent members of our society.
No, parole is not a given . They will have to spend at least 3 years inside, then they can start to apply for parole….

So, out in 3 years. Good to know it’s not just two!!!! Three years will see them return as hardened criminals. A ten year sentence without parole would return them broken and never to commit violent crime again.

It will be 3 years, they won’t need to go for parole, they will serve half the sentence, then if they commit crime while released they will be recalled, 3 years might not sound long but it is, a cut under an eye in my opinion doesn’t deserve double figures, what they did was bad but I’m sure 3 years of their life in prison will definitely make them think twice.
Three years. if that were my children, I would be waiting to greet them.

These two losers will be in and out of jail for the rest of their miserable lives. When they do come out, they will head straight to a bar, get drunk, hook up with some pals and get stoned. After the initial buzz of being free has worn off, they will turn their attention to the lack of cash in their pockets and start dealing weed and back up their threats of violence to those that do not pay up with their recent jail time for this crime.
This and other petty crime will no doubt be the path they will tread as they are unemployable in the general sense.
I have seen these two clowns on a couple of occasions over the last year – not personally, but in passing and they are unlikely to give two shits about this crime or its consequences.
Utter scum!! Let’s hope they get what they deserve when they’re in prison and in the showers on their own.

it only works in the middle east because they do not have the same welfare state and the culture is totally different.
If their hands were cut off in this country, as things stand, they would then have been made intentionally disabled by the state and would be entitled to disability benefits, home help, personal care and could not be treated any differently than any other disabled person – they would be entitled to claim compensation under the disability discrimination act.
It is cheaper and better for our society, that they are locked up for as long as they pose a threat, with their hands intact.
If it were an untrained out of control dog that went round attacking people it would be put down.
