A 3-car crash has forced the closure of The Mall – the main road between Carisbrooke and Newport – this afternoon (Bank Holiday Friday).
Police and ambulance crews are currently on scene having been alerted to the collision shortly before 13:15.
Island Echo understands 1 vehicle has collided with a parked car, which has then in turn been shunted into a third vehicle.
The road has been closed between Trafalgar Road and Drill Hall Road.
Traffic is being diverted via Trafalgar Road in both directions. Southern Vectis Route 7 and 12 buses are also diverting.
HM Coastguard is also on scene – thought to be because they were passing through the area.
Recovery has been arranged.

I wish people on here would wait to hear facts before assuming. I witnessed the accident and not a single idiot insight. Just a misjudged collision. Hope the couple involved are ok now. Also great response to local resident who assisted. Such a shame there aren’t many nice people who just judge others by their own standards.
Not paying attention, and no idea of their car size… pure stupidity really… Driving with undue care and attention… hopefully get banned from driving at least a year !!
That’s the trouble due care and attention doesn’t exist now and they will only get a minimal fine it’s terrible on are roads now

I come across bad driving several times a day! Other day it was 4 times on same road in newport. And a near headon with a foolish bike overtaker on downs .Save your red thumbs you blind people and wake up .its dangerous on our roads now
So many comments just utter crap blame the council for allowing parking on a narrow very busy in road to Newport it should be a clearway
It’s often people just sitting waiting to make nasty comments about a everyone without a second thought who rarely know very much at all.
Yes there are dangerous drivers on the island who do drive in a wreck less way but accidents do happen for other reasons which are not always their fault. The roads are shocking in places too. Spare a moment, if that’s at all possible, to think outside the vile box your heads always in!
