The Isle of Wight welcomed 18 new citizens in British Citizenship ceremonies held during July and August.
These were the first in-person citizenship ceremonies to take place at County Hall since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020.
The families pledged their allegiance to The Queen and made a pledge of loyalty to the United Kingdom in the final stage of becoming British citizens at the ceremonies, held at County Hall.
They were welcomed by the Island’s Deputy Lord Lieutenants, Kate Collins and Caroline Peel, High Sheriff, Kay Marriott, and chairman of the Isle of Wight Council, Councillor Claire Critchison.
Janice Lord, registration services manager, said:
“Becoming a British citizen is a significant milestone and an official ceremony to mark the occasion is a fantastic way to celebrate the final stage in becoming full British citizens.
”It’s great that we have been able to welcome back families to County Hall and they can celebrate together again”.
Citizenship ceremonies are held on a monthly basis for people who have had their application for British citizenship accepted. As part of the ceremony, residents swear or affirm an oath of allegiance to the Crown and make a promise to uphold the values and laws of the UK.
Following the ceremony there was a small reception with opportunities for photographs with the attending dignitaries and their families.

Well done for them and all their hard work and commitment for this they will be valued.
Shame that our own born and bred British Citizens that don’t affirm an oath of allegiance to the Crown and make a promise to uphold the values and laws of the UK are not sent out to places like Rawanda when they break the law – instead of benefits handed to them to pay fine and if get sent to prison get free heating, food and home etc whilst others are suffering homeless, mental health and not able to feed their children.
There are a lot born here who could do with taking that oath!
Agreed, that lot in court round up are repeated offenders who couldn’t care about anyone,if they keep reoffending send them of the British Isles, stick to the rule’s or you’re out. So many inocent victims have to suffer, about time Court’s got tougher.
I don’t think that AUSTRALIA would this time be as keen as before.
EVEN THOUGH OUR CRIMINALS(GB) BUILT THAT COUNTRY FROM SCRATCH !
But don’t let facts get in the way……?
Ironically the courts CAN’T get tougher, because our jails are full to bursting with many imported people whose crimes are so terrible that unless all our own undoubted growing low life do worse crimes, (which is unlikely) then they will never face meaningful sentences ever again.
It is NOT coincidence that the two are happening at the same time ie huge migration here and weak prison sentences given.
Just NO-ONE dare say so now as the race card is more powerful than freedom of true speech.
Check it out IF you don’t believe me.
Those newcomers too were no doubt once welcomed by the kind, weak or naive and also by those Brits who ‘feel’ a little superior when we house those even less fortunate than ourselves, just so long as the cost is at ‘others’ expense, not ours.
shove it…grovelling and scraping to them as well as paying for them, I think not
Almost guaranteed that most of the regular racists and xenophobes couldn’t pass the citizenship test.
almost guaranteed that the grovelling, snivelling wretches would actually believe in a test that has been created by those very elites, so that the plebs can prove that they are the grovelling, snivelling, toadying lackeys that they require for subservience.
nothing better than compliant fools to ensure that an elite can continue to live in the lap of luxury, whilst a pleb lives in poverty and is happy about it.
Welcome. Nice to see a smile. Nice news for a change.
Billy I expect YOU would be smiling if you never had, but were suddenly endowed with a free home, free education, free health care, hundreds a week in benefits to pay for food, clothing etc, all in a safe country, with every single right that that countries hard won citizens had had members of their family suffer for in depressions, and hard time of the past, to die for, fight for in wars, and work hard to win for what they thought would be their families in the future, not for anyone who ‘decides’ to arrive.
The smile is certainly genuine, as would all ours be if winning the lottery too, and have fools applaud other taking such
You are not quite right, but I would rather pay my taxes for people who appreciate and put back into society by getting employment as Dentist’s, Nurses, shop keepers, factory workers or whatever rather than law breakers that ruin others lives – violence, sex offences , burglary etc making our Insurance sky high, shoplift, criminal damage and offspring that cost us huge amounts in benefits, youth justice, court’s and special treats in education .
Exactly for a lot it’s a way of knuckling into this country and all its benefits, not all but most .
We would not be able to have all our benefits without immigrants, have a look in our hospitals, our shops, factories, transport system, (I am not talking about on the Island as there is not a true representative mix of people over here). Like Freddie I don’t mind paying taxes for these people who add benefit to our society and who work hard to keep their families to stay here.
I wonder what percentage of the Island’s residents claim benefits?
Well when you’ve heard certain statements from certain people who have sworn an allegiance then I’m sorry I’m very sceptical about some of their reasonings. They know our system better than we do and live better than we do. Yes some are hardworking and here for the right reasons and I’m friends with some but believe me some are only interested in what they can syphon off the country, we’ve got enough of our own who do it to cope with, no wonder this country is sinking in debt.
Well, the state pension is classed as a benefit, so quite a large proportion.
Where do you get your facts from please Chris. What is “a lot” and “most”?
We would not be able to have all our benefits without immigrants, have a look in our hospitals, our shops, factories, transport system, (I am not talking about on the Island as there is not a true representative mix of people over here). Who in their right mind would want to be British… we’ve become an embarrassment as a country.
By whom exactly ????????
And why ????
Who? Clearly all those who would not receive for their entire life and that of every child they have, free health care, free education, free rent and c.tax, plus extra cash for every child, more if they can be badged with a disability, and you can choose whether or not to work and still live well compared to where they originate from.
Akin to us being allowed into the U.S and having our lifestyle rise 50 fold, we too would swear any oath even to Donald Trump for a lifetime of better living.
That is who.
.
Where do you get the “free” part?
Good for them.
It’s a shame the natives arn’t made to do the same.
Freddie, but the ‘issue is’ it is not INSTEAD of housing and funding our own people who are workshy, and useless, this is not a ‘swap’ of people, this will be finding a house for our own undeserved, AND another plot of land taken for these people who MAY be decent, but then again as countless cases appear briefly daily, a huge proportion are not once here.
Akin to YOU having a lazy child, which IS your responsibility to sort out, but thing by bringing in a ‘good’ adopted child thinking all is now right. Fact is you then have to fund both if the adopted one falls on hard times, has children or is NOT what you ‘thought’ it would be.
Lord Lieutenant Susie now has two deputies. Wow! Even more local events not to shew up to. England’s oldest street carnival on Thursday last and, not so long ago, honouring Ventnor’s War Dead. She promised she would as Newport was too fearful of govt restrictions to have a ceremony. Despite the fact Boris the Party said parades were legal. As soon as County Hall heard Ventnor was having two Parades for November Ceremonies she couldn’t come any more…. Sad.
I must say the people pictured above are very much respected professionals working for the NHS and paying the right amount of tax without milking the system. Being British doesn’t really make much difference apart from having access to more countries without a visa. So no point being judgmental especially since the taxes pay for whatever benefit is reaped.
