A teenage boy has sadly died following a fatal motorcycle crash on the outskirts of Norton Green last night (Friday), prompting Police to launch an appeal for information.
As first reported by Island Echo, Police, Paramedics and Fire Crews from Newport, Freshwater and Shanklin were rushed to the scene on A3054 near the Pixley Hill junction at around 17:00.
At the same time, flying doctors from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance were called to the scene having been out on a shout in Southampton.
The incident involved a KTM motorbike and a Ford Fiesta and was described by Police as ‘serious. Island Echo understands that the motorbike rider was urgently treated by paramedics, however the 17-year-old rider – who was from Freshwater – was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Road closures remained in place in the local area long after the incident as Crash Scene Investigators (CSI) worked to find out how exactly the events of yesterday evening unfolded.
The road has since fully reopened this morning (Saturday).
A spokesperson from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has said:
“The rider’s family are being supported by specialist officers.
“We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident or was driving on the A3054 around 17:30 yesterday. You may have important information for us or relevant dash cam footage of either vehicle.

Such sad news , rip young man x and condolences to all your family and those that treated you at the scene xx
Rest in peace young man
It’s such a dangerous road and junction especially with double decker buses turning and traveling up and down Pixley Hill, something needs to change there.
Thoughts to this lads parents, friends & family. God Bless
Fell very sorry for the lad. The roads do not need changing, the users do. Road users need to slow down and LOOK… open a window and LISTEN, then LOOK again… too many drivers are in such a hurry… for what… DEATH … ???
Not many accidents up there involve buses!!!!
Regardless of how it happened. My heart drops for the child and the parents He was just starting his life.Rip young man.
Rest in peace lad. West wight boy taken far too soon.
Have spent all of my pre-retirement-life attending & dealing with such wasteful incidents. Naturally all sincere thoughts to all involved, loved-ones etc.
To young RIP, condolences to family.
Spare a thought for the driver of the other vehicle – I’m sure they will be suffering as well, whatever the circumstances of the crash.
oh so very true ,terrible for all involved in any way.
Whats the car in question saying then
Red thumbs?i was simply asking as police are asking for witnesses so what is the fiesta driver involved saying happened then!
Very sad news.
R.I.P
4 wheels are dangerous yet alone 2 wheels.
I too am a motorbike user and do not feel safe on many island roads.
Ride your motorbike at the speed you think it’s safe and take care.
