A Brading woman stopped by Police because she had a smashed wing mirror and faulty brake light was driving her vehicle under the influence of drugs, a court has heard.
Lucy Soldevila, 39, of Beaper Shute, admitted 2x drug driving when she appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Friday 3rd January.
Crown Prosecutor Liz Miller told the court that on 10th July last year, Police were alerted to a VW Touran with a smashed wing mirror being driven out of Newport along Fairlee Road. Whilst in pursuit, Police noticed that the vehicle was missing a brake light too.
Officers stopped the 39-year-old on East Cowes Road where she admitted that she had taken some cocaine some 7 days before she was stopped. Tests conducted at the roadside and at Newport Police Station returned above-level readings for cocaine and BZE (a cocaine breakdown product).
Defending, Oscar Vincent told the court that Soldevila admitted the offence at the first opportunity and went quietly to Newport Police Station having cooperated fully with Police. He also added that the 39-year-old hadn’t used cocaine since the incident.
Magistrates banned Soldevila for 14 months and fined her £120. She was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £48 surcharge fee.
What a Shame she is not punished more with how she doesn’t care for anyone’s safety. Should be given job to pick up dogs mess all over island that the lazy owners don’t do.
Until drink and drug drivers are banged up, nothing
will change.
39 years of age, should know better.
Nothing to do with age, it’s about the law and sentencing policies and levels. My law abiding, careful, competent and courteous driver wife was fined £100 for being 5 mph over the speed limit downhill on the mainland. Its all upside down nowadays.
