Police have been making enquiries following a suspicious incident in Lake yesterday (Wednesday) where an 11-year-old boy was approached by a man.
It was reported to Police that at some time between 13:20 and 14:00, an 11-year-old child was approached and spoken to by a man he did not know at Lake Railway Station.
The child became intimidated by the encounter and left the area before Police were called.
A search of the area surrounding Sandown Train Station and Los Altos Park was carried out late yesterday afternoon, but no arrests have been made.
Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident.
Officers are encouraging people to report any suspicious behaviour. If a crime is in progress, or you feel in danger, dial 999.

Just wondering why he wasn’t in school?
Various reasons, could’ve just decided not to go, his school could be closed due to covid, or maybe he just doesn’t go to school.
could have been heading home – feeling ill – a few different reasons, apart from the obvious – skiving.
either way, the kid obviously was concerned at the conduct or what was said to him, by the man, enough to have the police called.
normal, right minded men do not approach other peoples children in the street, unless they know them or they have a perfectly innocent reason for doing so…such as seeing the kid drop something and point it out to them, or if the kid needs help.
That is all You can think ?! There could be 100 valid reasons he wasn’t in school. Why aren’t You more concerned with grown men intimidating small boys ?
Is that your main concern maybe he had a dentist appointment crikey?
Doesn’t matter why he wasn’t in school does it?
Maybe the man was asking why he wasn’t at school and if he was ok? Before we start jumping to conclusions
The lad became intimidated , quite right he walked away and police called – we don’t know why ,could be the man was not well or under influence or asking why not in sch or 100 other reasons. Making assumptions and blaming either party without facts is wrong. Let the boy in peace and Police will do what they need.
It would be a lot more helpful if the police gave some indication as to the nature of this man’s approach and ‘intimidation’ of the boy, if only to stop speculation. An ‘inappropriate’ approach (I think you all know what I mean) is a lot different to someone querying why the boy wasn’t in school or telling him to stop doing something he shouldn’t be.
description would be nice?
