More than 1000 students from across the region will head to Portsmouth Guildhall later this month as they all battle it out at Rock Challenge 2016, which will feature students from 10 different Isle of Wight schools.
Teams as small as 10, or as large as 135 students, will have up to 8 minutes to perform their chosen theme to an audience of family, friends, VIPs, sponsors and a panel of industry professionals. Every aspect of the performance will have been devised, designed and created by the students and we will see a variety of themes from the tackling of current social issues to the retelling of real-life events or fictional pieces.
On Tuesday 15th March St George’s School will be the first Island team to take to the stage, followed by Ryde School with Upper Chine and Medina College on Wednesday 16th. Ryde Academy, Sandown Academy and Christ the King College will all perform on the Thursday, with Nettlestone Primary School heading to Portsmouth on Friday 18th and The Bay C of E Primary School on Saturday 19th, alongside Medina House School and Stenbury Federation.
Senior Event Manager, Samantha Eastwood, is looking forward to seeing what the schools will produce in this year’s Rock Challenge:
“Every year we are amazed by the amount of time and effort that schools put into creating their Rock Challenge and J Rock performances. Schools learn the importance of team work and perseverance as their many hours or hard work pay off in spectacular performances. This experience is the highlight of so many young people’s school careers and creates lasting memories for years to come.”
Last week Lanesend Primary School took 1st place in the sister J Rock challenge in Southampton, with Gurnard Primary and Newchurch Primary also walking away with several awards.
