A yellow weather warning has been issued for the Isle of Wight as a spell of heavy and persistent rain is forecast to sweep across the Island tonight and overnight into Tuesday morning.
IW Met Service has issued a warning advising that heavy rain is expected to begin from 20:00 tonight and continue through to 11:00 on Tuesday.
Rainfall totals are widely expected to reach between 25mm and 30mm, with some localised areas potentially seeing as much as 40mm to 50mm.
Forecasters warn that the overnight downpours could result in flooding on roads and large amounts of surface water. Rural areas may experience soil, silt and shingle being washed onto roads and walkways, creating hazardous conditions for drivers and pedestrians.
There is also a risk that rivers and streams prone to flooding could breach their banks, and polluted stormwater may affect beaches around the Isle of Wight.
Islanders are advised to take extra care when travelling.

In such weather conditions 20mph is plenty
don’t drive like numpties
The flood defenses at Morton common near sandown/ brading need to be made flood proof yaverland is the only other way that can also possibly get cut off too re high tides and if the yarbridge junction ever fails there is little hope of getting to brading or ryde via brading or bembridge. It’s rediculios re the amount everyone pays in council tax yet roads especially a main route should really be addressed. Plus why do the council never put in green man crossing on many hazardous pedestrian areas? Also some yellow lines can’t be that expensive re parking on a brow of a hill this particularly refers to the fairway and little tesco at lake where people fly into the fairway plus you can not get out of that junction without someone kindly giving way. Surely some green man crossing would solve the issue and save people getting knocked down on the zebra crossing. There is just too much going on in that area and everyone stops for a red light.
