Yarmouth RNLI was paged at the request of UK (Solent) Coastguard this morning having been alerted to a vessel in need of assistance near The Needles.
Yarmouth’s All Weather Lifeboat (ALB)(17-25) was tasked to launch at 07:30 and headed directly to the Needles Lighthouse.
HM Coastguard received a call for help from 23ft Arvor Angling Boat with 2 persons on board.
Once on scene, it was found that the vessel had fouled the stern gear on a lobster pot.
The West Wight volunteer crew launched the Y-Boat and cleared the line.
The casualty vessel and her crew were then able to engage drive, so they recovered her anchor and set course for Lymington under their own power.
By 08:30 the ALB then recovered the Y-Boat and crew back onboard and returned to Yarmouth reporting ready for service shortly before 09:00.
A spokesperson for Yarmouth RNLI said:
