Yarmouth’s All Weather Lifeboat was called into action yesterday afternoon (Tuesday) when a small yacht reported engine diffuclities just outside Yarmouth Harbour.
Solent Coastguard requested the launch of Yarmouth Lifeboat to aid the vessel and its 2 occupants at 15:22.
The lifeboat and its volunteer crew arrived on scene within just minutes, by which time it was found that 1 of Yarmouth Harbour’s water taxis had established a tow to the casualty vessel and was making its way back into the harbour.
Yarmouth RNLI’s crew assisted the harbour staff by escorting them safely back into the harbour, then returned ready for service by 15:57.
Bembridge RNLI’s inshore lifeboat was also called into action yesterday, to report of 2 people possibly in difficulty off Shanklin.
The D-Class ‘Norman Harvey’ was already on the water on a weekly training exercise when a request to divert came in from Solent Coastguard.
A member of the public thought they saw 2 swimmers in distress in the Shanklin area.
Coastguard Rescue Teams from Ventnor were mobilised to the Esplanade and Bembridge’s inshore lifeboat made best speed to the scene.
However, it was soon discovered that the swimmers were in fact divers fishing in the sea.
After a welfare check, it was found they were fine and no further action was needed.
