A yacht taking on water to the west of The Needles was towed to safety by the RNLI this afternoon (Saturday).
The incident begun shortly after midday when watch officers at The Needles Coastwatch station sighted the casualty vessel after a Pan Pan was issued.
Keeping eyes on, communication was instigated with the National Maritime Operations Centre which in turn resulted in the launch of Yarmouth RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat. The call for help was upgraded to a Mayday.
It was at 12:27 that Yarmouth RNLI was tasked to launch and they were on scene by 13:00.
A tow was established after a crew member was placed on board the yacht, which was then taken to the safety of Yarmouth Harbour – arriving at around 13:45.
