The Isle of Wight Council’s library service is running a First World War writing competition as part of the official launch of the service’s Great War commemorations.
The competition is open to everyone with entrants asked to write original stories or poems which have a connection to the First World War.
There are three age groups for people to enter. These are children up to 11, aged between 12 and 17, and adult which is over 18s. Several writing styles and preferences are catered for with anyone encouraged to submit entries in three genres which are short story, poem or flash fiction. Prizes have been supplied by Waterstones and the library service and will be awarded to the best three entries in each age group regardless of genre. Book tokens and World War I related books will be awarded as prizes. The closing date for entries is 12th July 2014, with prizes being awarded and the best entries read out at a special World War I commemoration day which will be held at Newport Library on Saturday 2nd August.
