A songwriters club for Isle of Wight teens is celebrating this festive period having won a local Christmas song competition, as well as receiving news of additional funding to increase meetings from monthly to fortnightly in 2023.
Members of Starling Songwriters, which meets every 1st Wednesday of the month in Carisbrooke and is open to those aged 10 to 16, have been working on a Christmas song for 2022 to help spread the festive cheer.
The club’s organisers were so impressed they entered the song into the annual Quay Arts Christmas Song Writing competition, achieving a 1st place win!
Following this success, the decision was taken to produce a video with the song also set to be released on all major streaming services.
Tilly, Bede, Nanci, Annie, Esme, Sonnie, Lila and Naeve wrote the music from scratch and penned the lyrics. You can listen and watch their efforts below…
Thanks to funding from the Isle of Wight Council, funding has been secured to start up at the Isle of Wight Community Center in Cowes. These meetings will take place on Saturday mornings from 28th January, meaning the club can go from monthly meets to fortnightly.
Furthermore, it will be tied to an Early Years Club, giving the opportunity for 1 to 4-year-olds to come into contact with lots of instruments and experience live performances of popular singalong songs and children’s songs, written by Starling Songwriters members and club attendees alike.

I think it is terrible.
Good song
Well done kids
Now for The X Factor comments. Vocally it’s a little on the ropy side, but musically and lyrically it’s not a bad song. They play their own instruments, and it’s original. Although it won’t be a hit this year, with a record label reworking it, and maybe vocal coaching for the performers, it could rival Mariah Carey and George Michael for Christmas No 1 next year.
