A 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after a woman in her 50s sustained a serious arm injury in Sandown last night (Tuesday).
As first reported by Island Echo, Police were called to Avenue Road at just before 20:40 and quickly established a cordon around several blood patches.
It has now been confirmed that officers were responding to reports of a public order incident involving a group of people, which led to a man in his 40s and a woman in her 50s being assaulted.
The woman is said to have sustained a serious arm injury.
As a result, a 42-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.
He remains in custody at this time.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary say that enquiries into the full circumstances remain ongoing and that officers will be in the area conducting enquiries today.
