Police on the Isle of Wight are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a suspicious vehicle fire in East Cowes earlier this week.
An investigation is underway after a Mercedes Sprinter van – belonging to Islandwide Carpets – was completely burnt out in a blaze that broke out on York Avenue.
Tuesday’s fire, which is thought to have begun between 18:00 and 18:30, also caused some additional damage to a 2nd vehicle – a Vauxhall Astra van – parked close by.
Police have been making enquiries in the area, including scoping for CCTV, and are now urging anyone who witnessed anything or has any information for officers to get in touch. Police are also urging locals to report sightings of any suspicious people or vehicles.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary are working to establish whether this fire is connected to any other incidents in the area, including another van fire in which a Hobgoblin-branded curtain side went up in flames.
This photograph, exclusive to Island Echo, shows a very small fire developing in the kerb line before the blaze took hold of the vehicle.
