Firefighters have tackled a van fire on the main road into East Cowes this morning (Saturday).
1 appliance from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service was mobilised to York Avenue at just before 10:55 when reports were received that a curtain side van was well alight.
The single crew have worked quickly to extinguish the flames, which are thought to have been contained to the engine bay area
It’s thought the fire started near to the offside front wheel – possibly outside of the vehicle.
The road remains open as normal.
It has been a busy morning for the Island’s fire crews with incidents at Briddlesford Road near Wootton, Middle Road at Tapnell and other smaller incidents.

How strange drove past that van yesterday, and it had a sign on it, plus been there for ages.
Set light to your van…… its still cheaper than turning the heating on.
Hobgoblin! I hope the beer is OK. Don’t commercial vehicles carry fire extinguishers??
No way that van caught fire on its own, it’s been outside them flats all week, it’s been blocking the view coming out of the drive way I’d would be knocking on their doors and asking a few questions.
