Keith Greenfield, the CEO of Wightlink, has provided an update on the company’s latest plans ahead of the Yarmouth service resuming next week.
The video was recorded on the Yarmouth-Lymington ferry, which hasn’t run since March. The car ferry operation will resume from Friday 17th July, as previously reported by Island Echo.
From Monday, all passengers must vacate their vehicles and head up to the passenger or sun decks. Everyone must also wear face coverings, as per the current law regarding public transport.

FASTCAT?
Let people stay in the cars its the safest place to be
Get the fast cat back on.
Great news! Looking forward to our holiday in early August. Face coverings are mandatory, however, hot drinks and snacks available I understand. Are there restrictions on board as to where these can be consumed?
And only remove face coverings to buy and eat the food you sell, thereby touching a mask or face covering that is potentially covered in the virus, and then touch everything onboard. What a splendid idea not!!!
Without the fastcat, there is no need for a railway here. I think it might be an idea to establish the ownership of the Pier and the obligations attached to providing the link between the rail heads either side of the Solent.
Greedy old men way past their date !!!! Government should investigate this whole system crossing the Solent so expensive ! Why? many people now want change!
Wightlink ferries have never run to suit the paying public just to suit themselves. What about the fast cat when is that to start running?. Time this company had some serious competition.
You won’t get anywhere, the normal Islanders like me and you never will, not with the council we have now, or indeed with our fantastically inept MP Mr Bob “Sausage” Seely. I think maybe the council should declare how many brown envelopes they have purchased through stores, I’m sure a few have got passed around during this lockdown, and not empty ones either.
IMO extremely bad timing to make everyone vacate their cars, the RISK of being infected by this nasty virus surely far outweighs the risk of people staying in vehicles, honestly think people should be offered the choice, ferry’s will be much busier if not full, therefore difficult to observe social distancing on some sailings. Clinically extremely vulnerable are still shielding !!extremely vulnerable are still advised to take precautions and observe social distancing as the virus is still out there!! Sincerely hope we don’t pay the price on our little Isle for this decision.
Get the Fastcat running again. Your comment about no demand is ridiculous – there cannot be a demand as the vessel is not running. You need to run the Fastcat even on a reduced service to create that demand
We have Wightlink tickets which are useless – we cannot get to Fishbourne so when are you going to get things moving or give us our money back so we vcan take our custom elsewhere
Go elsewhere then.
You can use wightlink tickets on the hovercraft…they have been accepting them since the cat stopped
A simple case of what they want to do, this implies that the customers are wrong.
Well, i’m a customer and i won’t be using any of your services.
I’ve seen people on the bus not wearing a mask. Are the staff to enforce this? Expect a lot delayed sailings as someone kicks of because they are not allowed on the boat as they refuse to wear a mask.
The fastcat service is needed by the commuting islanders, back to work longer days and costing more … Shame on wightlink no consideration for the fastcat users and there’s many….. who are you kidding the red jets running enough demand that end of the island to provide a service…. Commuter service at least ….. Boat an hour would be full I am sure…..
a full boat is not a good idea really is it.
