Specialist contractors have worked together to recover the propeller of the stricken FastCat Wight Ryder 2, which fell off the vessel near Ryde Pier yesterday (Tuesday).
Island Divers with the assistance of Rebel Marine, both from Cowes, have today dived to a depth of 8-10 metres to locate and haul up the prop.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the incident occurred during 1 of yesterday morning’s sailings from Portsmouth to Ryde and was initially described as a ‘technical issue’.
A spokesperson for the cross-Solent operator later said that Wight Ryder 2’s propeller damage was thought to have been caused by debris in the Solent but no further details have been provided about what the vessel allegedly hit.
Wight Ryder 2 has been withdrawn for inspection and repairs. It is unknown how long this will take. In the meantime, the service is reliant on just 1 vessel.

LMAO at all the armchair mechanics saying that it did not have a prop.
LMAO at your pointless comment
They’ll put the prices up again to pay for a replacement 😉
You took the words out of my mouth.
Maybe Barbeque Bob will have a word with Wightlink to make sure
theh don’t shaft us Islanders to cross the solent.
And yet the prices they’ve been charging and their company profits they should have had enough money to buy a few vessels across their fleet
wonder who didn’t fit it correctly!
Marine equivalent of not checking your wheel nuts!
While the diver was down there .. did he see or find the “special island deal” our pop-up Bob and serial liar BoJo promised ?? No !! Strange
I like the fact that it just apparantly “fell off” like it was some casual accident. “Oops, silly us!”
All these dimwits on the last post saying it didn’t have a propellor! You know nuttin about nuttin! I said it once I’ll say it again good old British engineering this is not. A bloody disgrace to our glorious Isle of Wight waters…Steve
I blame the Russian subs lurking around….
I’ll bet the rev counter needle hit the end stop when that fell off.
Think the governor would have cut in & stopped that!
The slaves were working too hard, they broke an oar.
At least you can clearly see what the fare money is not spent on.
New for 2024 big manager bonuses, and a pair of oars!!
