Residents in the village of Billingham, who remain without electricity following yesterday’s storm, are being invited to make use of a welfare unit established in the area.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks are providing free hot food and drinks to customers who remain off supply.
The welfare facility has been set up at West Billington Farm on Berry Shute (PO30 3HF) – between Chillerton and Chale Green.
Those without power for more than 48 hours will be eligible for a payment of £70. A further £70 will be due for each additional period of 12 hours in which supply is not restored, up to a cap of £700.
Customers do not need to contact SSEN to receive this compensation. It will automatically be issued by means of a cheque to the address that was impacted.
