Torrential downpours are expected to hit the Isle of Wight this evening and overnight into Thursday morning, with a yellow weather warning issued by IW Met Service.
Forecasters say a large area of rain will spread across the Island from the southwest through this evening (Wednesday), some of which will become very heavy at times with locally torrential downpours, perhaps even accompanied by the odd rumble of thunder.
Strong wind gusts of up to 60mph may also accompany some of the heaviest downpours, bringing adverse conditions to the Island.
Rainfall totals will be highly variable, with some areas seeing perhaps around 8-10mm but locally there could be totals closer to 30mm.
Islanders are warned about the risk of localised flash flooding in the usual susceptible locations during the heaviest downpours, along with the risk of a few rivers breaching their banks later in the night.
Hazardous driving conditions are expected due to surface water and spray, with field run-off debris such as soil, silt and stones affecting some roads and walkways.
Slippery conditions may be experienced with tree debris falling across the road, especially in more wooded areas.
The warning is in force from 18:00 today until 03:00 tomorrow.
