The Royal Hotel in Ventnor, one of the Island’s most prestigious establishments, has been sold to new owners.
Originally built in 1832, The Royal Hotel is a cherished establishment with a renowned reputation on the Island for its accommodation, food and beverage offerings. The hotel features 51-ensuite bedrooms, an extensive bar and a restaurant with panoramic sea views over the English Channel.
It was in June last year that the decision was taken to put the hotel on the open market for an undisclosed sum.
Now, almost 18 months later, the sale has been completed. The new owners have been revealed as 43-year-old Mohamed Bathich and 25-year-old Khadjia Namour, both from London.
The highly successful hotel was originally known as Fishers Hotel but became known as The Royal Hotel after enjoying Queen Victoria’s patronage. It has been independently owned and operated by William Bailey since 1994.
Commenting on the sale, William has said:
“Whilst it is of course sad to have sold a business with which we have been involved for almost 30 years, now is the right time to step back.
“We wish the new owners every success during their ownership of this great and profitable hotel in a picturesque location on the Isle of Wight. Most importantly we would like to thank the staff, with whom we have shared this memorable journey, for their hard work and dedication over the years.”
Mohamed Bathich, Director of the company that has acquired the hotel, says:
“The Royal Hotel presented a rare opportunity to acquire a hotel which is such an icon on the Island and is so much loved by its customers and staff alike.
“We are determined to maintain the high level of service for which the hotel is known, whilst expanding its appeal to those on the Island who have not used its services before. Whether it is for a short stay, a Sunday Lunch, Afternoon Tea or as a Wedding Venue, we will maintain and enhance the quality that William Bailey has built over the years”.
Ed Bellfield, Regional Director of Christie & Co, who has managed the sale, says:
“The sale of The Royal Hotel represents an exceptional opportunity to acquire a phenomenally successful hotel business with significant repeat patronage, largely due to its continued ownership and continuity within the same family since 1994. The reputation and success of the business is a testament to the continued re-investment and family stewardship over recent decades combined with its enviable location in the picturesque Isle of Wight.
“We wish William well on his future and the closing of a long-established chapter.”
Nice to keep it British !!
Congratulations, it’s a lovely hotel, the best on
the island.
