The owner of a Mercedes has been left with a hefty bill after thugs damaged the car overnight in what appears to be a case of mistake identity.
The incident occurred earlier this morning (Saturday) in St George’s Road, Shanklin.
According to the owner, who has spoken to local residents, 2 unknown males made references to finding ‘Sam’s car’ and that they were going to cause criminal damage to the vehicle.
Dave, the car’s rightful owner, believes that the duo simply identified the wrong car, which has left him with a repair bill through no fault his own.
The rear windscreen has been smashed in.
The incident has been reported to the Police, who are said to have already closed the case.

Police have closed the case. Good job we are extra for the so called police in the council tax.
The police can only do so much if there isn’t any proof to who did it then they can’t do much more. They are the police not mind readers
Motor insurance Bureau then.
It’s not looking good for our police, what ever happened to good old fashioned policing…
Case closed already why? Does that mean it it open season for damaging your neighbours car.
How can the Police close a case of criminal damage? Must be too difficult to solve the crime. Much easier to go round looking for Covid rule breakers.
So why didn’t the locals report these people before they did it? Or took their photo just in case.
Judging by the comments on his Facebook page my bet is it was a BMW driver
