Residents of Vecta House care home in Newport joined in the vibrant celebrations for Summerfield’s Primary School’s ‘50 Fest’, marking 50 years since the school first opened its doors.
The special intergenerational event gave residents a chance to connect with the younger generation and be part of a joyous community gathering.
Upon arrival, Vecta House residents were warmly welcomed by staff and immersed in the festival atmosphere. The school grounds were decorated with colourful flags and bunting, with stalls, pony rides, an ice cream van and a lively dance floor with a DJ adding to the fun.
Residents enjoyed watching the children ride ponies, and highlights included residents Ann and Gordon taking on the children at a game of ‘splat the rat’. Ann was in fits of laughter while Gordon impressed everyone with his skill at popping water balloons. Ann then had colourful glitter art added to her face before joining in with some dancing at the music area. The day ended with a photo at the ‘50 years of Summerfields’ photo booth.
Tanya Everson, Lifestyle Leader at Vecta House, has said:
“It was a truly fantastic afternoon, and we are so grateful to have been invited to join Summerfield’s Primary School for their momentous celebrations.
“It was particularly special to see the cherry blossom tree that Vecta House had donated planted proudly in the school field. We cherish our strong connection with the younger generation and eagerly anticipate many more years of making wonderful memories together.”
Vecta House says it remains committed to fostering meaningful connections between its residents and the wider community, recognising the positive impact of intergenerational projects on residents’ wellbeing.
