The Christmas season officially began Vecta House care home in Newport earlier this week (Tuesday), where residents, families, friends and staff gathered for a joyful Christmas Lights Ceremony filled with festive cheer.
The evening began with a performance of carols around the Christmas tree by children from Summerfields Primary School. Their cheerful singing helped set a warm and festive atmosphere for all in attendance.
Vecta House resident Gordon then stepped forward to present special gifts to each of the young performers, thanking them for their contribution to the celebration.
Excitement built as the crowd moved outside for the main event – the grand switch-on of the Christmas lights. The honours were carried out by none other than Santa Claus, who led a countdown before the care home was illuminated in a brilliant festive glow.
Guests then moved indoors to enjoy traditional Christmas treats including mince pies and mulled wine. Santa continued his visit with special appearances throughout the home, spreading festive joy to residents and staff alike.
Tanya Everson, Lifestyle Leader at Vecta House, has said:
“This event is always a highlight of our calendar. Seeing the joy on the faces of our residents, especially as they celebrated with their families and the local community, is truly special.
“We want to extend a massive thank you to the children of Summerfields Primary School and, of course, to Santa Isle of Wight Round Table for making our switch-on an unforgettable start to Christmas!”
