A busy convenience store in the village of Bembridge has been unable to open as planned over Christmas due to vandals targeting the shop.
Staff at the The Southern Co-Operative on Sherbourne Street arrived on Christmas Day to open up for the village’s parishioners between 10:00-14:00. However, it soon became clear there was a problem…
It was discovered that the lock to the front door had been superglued, preventing access.
With locksmiths on shut down for Christmas – and company policy on which ones can be used – the store has been unable to get the matter resolved.
As a result, the store remains closed today (Boxing Day) also. It was due to open today from 08:00-17:00.
A notice stuck to the front door says:
”Due to vandalism we are unable to open.
“We apologise for any inconvenience.
”We wish you a Merry Christmas”.
UPDATE – The store has now been able to reopen, with customers welcomed until 17:00 today.

Little scummy bastards.
Sad scum hopefully in life something gets back at them.
Time for CCTV.
Could it be a member of staff who didn’t want to
work over the Christmas period!
Premier stores are open until midnight in Lake
and open late in other island locations.
And this is the low life scum that the government think should have more rewards than a pensioner or a war vet or a workman that has paid their way for decades. We owe this waste of space pond life nothing
This Government are buying their votes.
All the benefit claimants will keep voting for them.
Yes they are. They know full well that no one they have crapped on will
how insane are some people….
I guess someone didn’t want to work over Xmas lol
My thoughts exactly.
Radical Christians again, its happening all over Hampshire and Sussex
Some good Christians upholding traditions… ✊️
OK, the obvious cctv camera there might hold a clue to who is responsible perhaps!
If you just sprayed deactivater it would of got rid of the glue
