A vehicle was seized by Police this afternoon (Thursday) at the Red Funnel car park in East Cowes after the driver was found to be on the road without insurance.
Plain clothed officers from the forces High Harm Team (HHT) descended on the scene on Castle Street at around 15:00.
At the scene, a Toyota Hiace van was seized after it was found the driver was driving without insurance.
Subsequently, the driver was forced to make alternative travel arrangements.

Van stopped, driver had to make alternative arrangement, What no arrest!!!
No, so long as you can provide identification of yourself and of coarse you haven’t been drink/drug driving then arrest is pointless for driving without insurance. You are banged to rights there and then at the roadside anyway. What would an arrest, taken to the nick then interviewed achieve? It will just waste hours of police resources with no better outcome when it goes to court anyway. Quickest option to deal with these cases are the best option all round.
Arrested for what.
“Plain clothes officers from the ‘High Harm Team’ descended on a van driver who was driving a van with no insurance”.
Driving without insurance is a serious matter, BUT, hardly in the “high harm” category. I would have thought attending burglary victims and arresting the thieves would be a welcome innovation, or dealing with ASB and drug misuse issues which are rampant on the island would be more efficacious!
But still, it’s comforting to know that our wonderful island law enforcement team are actually out on the streets and not stuck behind desks processing motorists for doing 34 mph down Victoria Grove in East Cowes.
Why not ha Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras at the ferry ports to help catch these idiots.
Needed Islandwide not just at ferry ports
Yet vehicles can freely drive around the Island with NO MOT
NO MOT = NO INSURANCE
Island Roads are aware of the vehicle in question yet it still parks in Ryde and
is used daily.
The Law is intermittent.
It is the unlucky ones who get caught, some people dont get caught.
There is No Traffic rules on the Island.
Check vehicles down your road or outside your properties
Go to Car Mot check Gov website
You will be amazed how many vehicles have No MOT.
Well done
Now scrap / crush it.
The van or the man boy?
Or just sell it.
Or auction it and use the money for something useful. Why scrap something that has a value even if it isn’t a lot?
Ha ha catch the bus you idiot! I agree scrap it crush it!
Whys the high harm team getting involved in that sort of thing? Surely should be concentrating on the huge drug problem on the Island?
Because they happened to be on the way between A and B and they saw it. Would you prefer it if they decided it was below them and let it go?
We are paying for the Numpties who drive around with
No MOT, TAX or INSURANCE
Just spend a day stopping all trades. You’ll catch 99% of drunk / stoned / not insured / no licence drivers on our roads. Drive past any pub at 4pm and the car park is full of the trades having a few pints before driving home.
Im a trades man and i know a lot of people and none of us drink and go to the pub in the day time so to say 99% are drunk/ stoned with no licences etc is a out right lie STUPID. Think about what you say before you say things about people
Regent Street Shanklin – parking on Pavements is rife.
Sandown o/s Pier and Napoleons Reach – parking on Double Yellow lines is rife.
Brading NO Right turn is ignored by many motorists.
The Island is Lawless and is run by persons who don’t have a clue what they are doing.
