Police are making enquiries after a van crashed into concrete barriers in Lake last night (Wednesday), narrowly avoiding careering into workmen.
At just before midnight, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary received reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision on Lake Hill.
Island Echo understands that a white van was speeding down the hill when it collided with a concrete barrier. The vehicle then nearly hit a number of people working on the railway bridge project, before going on to clip another 1 of the protective barriers.
The van was dumped just a few hundred metres down the road on Lake Green Road, at the junction with New Road.
The driver is understood to have fled the scene.
Police say that no injuries have been reported and enquiries are ongoing at this time.
